Warbirds Over Long Island is located on Long Island, NY, and is dedicated to the presentation of World War II planes and the history that surrounds them. It is truly our belief that in order to properly pay homage to the heroes who flew these magnificent machines we must put forth our best efforts to keep them flying proud so that their legacy may live on through posterity.
Warbirds Over Long Island was founded by Robert and Chris Baranaskas. Since childhood, Robert Baranaskas has been interested in aviation. Growing up the son of a World War II fighter pilot and flight instructor and then commercial pilot for American Airlines, Baranaskas took his first flight before he can even remember.
He started flying fresh out of high school at the age of 18 and soloed his first flight the same year. Then, with career goals and aspirations in construction management, he spent the next 25 years building his business.
With a profound lingering interest in aviation, specifically the WWII era, Baranaskas got back into flying more than fifteen years ago.
As part of the effort to present a flying museum, Baranaskas formed Warbirds Over Long Island, so that future generations will be able to appreciate the flight of these magnificent machines. To date, the Warbirds Over Long Island represents a P51 Mustang, a P17 Stearman, an SNJ Texan, and a Curtis P-40 WarHawk.
Warbirds Over Long Island is very active in the air show circuit and attends more than fifteen shows a season. While some organizations question the risk of flying the vintage fighter planes, Bob and Chris Baranaskas believe the only way to truly appreciate the planes is to see them in flight … only in flight can one see the real beauty of what that generation created. |
